Re: [sconz] RE: 7M vs 1JZ   2003-05-29 22:31:00 <TRIPLE M>
Exactly. I believe so long as we can whip the arse of most Holdens and
F.O.R.D.'s and WRX's and Skylines and T-Buckets(how did that slip in there)
then what have we got to worry about. After all we all feel good when
someone tells a story of burying one of the above don't we?

Oops I forgot to mention Celica's(sorry Richard didn't want you to feel
left out and i know how you like a bit of ammunition).

Now, I'll just go and put my flame proof overalls on.

When you're talking Mopars you need to get it right. Jensens had 383 & 440
wedge motors not the vaunted Hemi. Jensen with the Hemi would have been
intersting though & far more collectable. Rat vs Hemi - no contest.

Speak for yourselves! I'd rather forget the 265 Hemi's I've had to fix,
although those 318 fireballs were an OK engine for the size, pity they
couldn't put them in a car that actually went around corners!

Anyway, EVERYONE knows the only truly great lump is the plymouth roadrunner
superbird of 1970. 426 hemi option making 425 BHP stock, 0-60 in 4.8 and a
13.5 @105 quarter fresh from the factory :)

425hp was significantly understated closer to 500. Superbird was a Nascar
with tall gearing. Try the 426 Hemi 68 special Dodge dart racer special
perspex windows etc etc10 sec with slicks ex factory.
Rob.

No offence to anyone concerned but if I wanted a noisey offensive
american p.o.s. I would'nt have bought a Supra and if you own an
american car that weighs 2 tonne is no wonder you need 425 horse
power to get up the hill to the dairy and emptying more petrol out
the exhaust than most Supra's would use in a week of normal
running.;-)

Just my 2c

Cheers

Amen! Here's my personal experiences of yank pieces of crap:

For the last two years I've team managed a Sprint Car team at Western
Springs. The car uses a 410 cubic inch (6.7Litre) all alloy small block
Chev with a Kyrptonite crank (yes, really, look it up), forged pistons,
Hilborn injection running methanol, Dash 12 heads, the lot. To buy one off
the shelf would cost you US$30,000+ . The engine makes around 700HP. In
two seasons we've done 3 engine rebuilds, and the engine is currently
sitting on the bench having grenaded big time last time it ran (think four
melted pistons, stuffed heads, dead liners). It's been through three sets
of pistons, four sets of bearings, kept popping push rods, melted valves,
shredded water pumps, you name it. No expense is spared on the engine.

Contrast the A-grade stock car boys running modded Lexus V8s... Pump gas, 4
barrel carbs, making in excess of 500HP on largely stock components.

Hmmm....
Mega Chev, injected methanol: 104 HP/Litre
Lexus, carbed petrol: 125 HP/Litre

...and guess which one doesn't fall apart multiple times per season?

You can keep your yank crap, especially as I go past you with the boost
wound on...

Just going back to the original purpose of this thread for a moment - 7M vs 1JZ...

I've just taken delivery of this book:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1859606911/qid=1054242515/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/002-3120341-8272059?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

Idling flicking through it last night I came across a picture of a 1JZ with the turbos off it, just showing the two exhaust manifolds. The caption for the picture read:

"How not to do it"

And later in the text reads: "Some cars have incredibly horrible power-robbing plumbing which cannot be ignored. The twin turbo Toyota Supra is one such beast which demands a better exhaust manifold."

Had to laugh :-)

(The 7M didn't get mentioned)

It's true, they suck! Have a few photos myself. How ever I do beleave that
it does let the turbo spool quicker as the exhaust gas speed would be
faster. But yeah they suck for HP.
