RE: Drags & LSD's   2003-07-15 11:46:00 <Peter O>
Everyone,

"the drag day seemed to go alright.....
traction seemed to be a big big problem....thought it was just me but
seeing others spinning most of the way down the track"

This observation is the same as mine, different day, different variety
of cars, dry day at Meremere.
On that occasion about half the cars attempting a decent drag failed
miserably because of wheel spin & this seemed to me at least to be due
to lack of LSD or perhaps failure of LSD's fitted.

Another largish group with disappointing results were those that
failed to make quick up changes, could be nerves or inexperience but
that seems a bit unlikely given every vehicle was scrutinised By MANZ
rep indicating to me that this was not a novice group.

My observation at the time was why no autos?
Then was advised that the leading specialised drag cars in USA nearly
all use autos - several reasons given & I don't recall well enough top
attempt to repeat here.

Questions:
1) Why the heck are LSD's not seen as a must have component on every
high powered performance car including surely all Supras.
2) And why are autos viewed in such a poor light given that 4 & 5
speed boxes are available making for very easy driving in town &
surely offering to many very consistent drag results.

Anyone care to put me right with all sides of the argument?

Pete

I'll vouch for the MKIV auto, much nicer to drive around town (but it's a MKIV and seeing as I don't own one the teptation to spank it was rife). Nothing compares to the endless acceleration of the tt auto!!! I was literally holding on for dear life at 17PSI!!!!!

why are autos better for burnouts?
autos are not all that bad if they are not slush boxes....and either way you
will loose more power through an auto than a manual
