Remember, "The" Group-A supra was a rally car build by TTE europe to fill in a
gap when they needed a Group A safari rally car (the celica was group B at
the time). there were also a pile of different proclaimed "Group-A" track
cars, but they were basically built up standard supras, run by privateers or
toyota dealer teams (as opposed to toyota factory teams).

Yes, the Group-A rally supra used a different turbo and ECU, but since it was
basically a custom build, that is no surprise. I have a book around here
somewhere with the details, but cannot lay my hands on it right now.

Regards,
Stuart.

Well apart from the enigma a Supra Rally car is there is also the more
understandable Group-A Track cars. The homogated road version being the
Turbo-A with has a slightly larger turbo and is MAP sensed instead of
the MAF.

Yep, it's basically identical to the slightly older TTE car, no doubt with
different wheels fitted and the suspension cranked back down ;) the rally
model was also MAP, modded ct26, etc, etc.

The TTE car was run in 1987, the track cars ran first in 1989.

you can find a bit of info here if you are interested:

I really feel for the drivers who had to haul that beast through a rally!

I believe (although I could be wrong here) that the homoligation cars were
build to homoligate the TTE car in 1987, although it probably homoligated the
track cars as well.
I should try and dig up my toyota engine tech book, which has much more info
on these cars.

Oh, one thing the rally car also did,
It somehow, unbelievably, won the 1987 Rally Hong Kong - Beijing.

so the upgraded turbo is a ct26 of some sort?
also in the rally... was the supra rwd against the 4wd audi's and the like?
so the 1987 supra rwd came third when 2 audi quattro 4wd's took 1st and
2nd... woohoo go the supra

much appreciated on the info :)
