JZA70 ECU?   2004-08-20 09:56:00 <Stuart W>

Hello peole.

I've currently got a very hard to diagnose problem with my JZA70 auto,
which I suspect could be an intermittent ECu fault, does anyone have a
JZA70 auto ECU around I could borrow to test?

The symptom is a sudden development of a large misfire and almost no
power, which also causes a LARGE amount of smoke to be made at idle and
low throttle. The fault usually goes away if I stop the engine for 3 or 4
minutes.. Hmmm.

It is a VERY strange fault - I suspect one of the 2 bangs of injectors may
be being driven hard open, causnig a massive rich condition on 1/2 the
clinders, but have not been able to verify this totally yet.

Regards,
Stuart.

Have you tried scoping the electrical feed to the injectors? That should
prove that theory one way or the other pretty quick...?

Unfortunately snice I cannot get the car to show the fault at home as yet it is hard to diagnose - it only happens about once every 2 days, and it clears if the car is off for more than a few minutes - making it hard to diagnose, sigh.

Just spoke to Steve Murch about this - he's seen problems with the main EFI
relay dying and the ECU then doing stupid things. He suggested the
following:
- Throw a volt meter on the main EFI power feed, and check the voltage drop
as you crank/start the car.
- Drive it until the fault occurs and note whether voltage drop is occuring
then.

In either case = problems. You could nick the EFI relay from your MA70 and
drop that in to see if it makes any difference?

If all else fails he's given me contact details for a couple of guys with
scan tools that should pick it up fairly quickly.

Cheers

Hi Stuart,
Geoff Infield's car in Wellington did this - the problem was found to be the
rear Cam sensor connector was loose/intermittent.

Is the ECU indicating any faults?

Marc
