1jz's dropping injectors/cylinders on gear change   2004-10-03 11:18:00 <Suze Walsh>
hey Cully

when we've spoken to you, you said that Stuart had made a discovery
with the 1jz engine and ecu that on gear change the auto doesn't
actually retard the engine but rather drops injectors which in turn
drops cylinders
is this correct from what i remember
also would you be able to post up all the fancy stuff in how that
worked and what method stuart used to find this out

much appreciated

Cullys dead, 'cause I killed him ;) (sure he will be back soon, damn hard to
kill them!)

The engine may also retard the ignition, I have not as yet monitored that so I
cannot be sure.
I certainly do know that it drops injection events (and possibly the
associated ignition, not sure on that either). Interestingly it seems to bias
the dropped cylinders to the centre two, although I think it also drops
others at times.

I know this as I had been running a multi-channel logging injector duration
monitor on my car to diagnose an ECU fault (as well as spending a lot of time
inside the ECU, damn thing..) which is now fixed.

Next generation may well allow for ignition timing monitoring as well,
although that is a bit more difficult as I need a TDC signal, hard to get.

Regards,
Stuart W.

awesome Stuart thanks alot for that
i couldn't remember the exact way Cully explained it so i figure
instead of trying to explain it in my blonde language i would just
quote it hehe

thanks ;)
