If they're twice as long as neccesary, they're going back wherefrom they came! The 7mgte isn't exactly designed to accomodate any excess lead length safely without compromising their lifespan considerably. I'm lucky in that I have all the little plastic insulating guides completely intact (had to replace one that was broke causing the lead to rest so gently on the rocker cover. now the exterior of that lead is live as a mother)

I once had top gun and they were twice as long as necessary, let me know if they're still like that :/

Anyone know who in or around Auckland I can source HT leads for my 7mgte from? Suprisingly, no one in the auto electric trade wants to co operate and bosch told me to all but go away.

I just used a good sized socket on an extension with a mallet to take them out, and used an actual keeper removal tool to press them back in.
looked something like this: http://www.powersportrider.co.za/prodimages/engine%20tools%20valve%20spring%20collet%20remove.jpg
Having a strong magnet is also super handy to pull out your buckets as well as catch your keepers.
